Dewey’s Read-a-thon Hour 24

Time: 11:05am (written 2 hours after finish)

Currently Reading:

I was so tired my book kept slipping off my hands and I kept nodding off. I took a nap but set the alarm for 5am-ish. Last year I woke up at 6 after a good long nap, too long in fact for when hour 24 came by I was still full of steam, which wasn’t right. So this year I didn’t quite nap as much, so I could stumble and collapse at the finish line. That’s what real atheletes do right? They just collapse onto the ground after the line. That’s what I did. The clock stroke, I took off my glasses and buried my head under the blanket.

I read a quick manga, then after the nap, I tried to start on Talking Hands, a wishlist book of my friend. After a while realized, who am I kidding? Trying to read a non fiction about linguistics and sign languages at hour 21? So I picked up Dancing on the Edge, a YA book which with bigger fonts are easier on the eyes, and a relatively thin book among my oldest TBR. But I was plain too tired and moving along at a snail pace didn’t get to finish it.

Overall, not too happy with this year’s progress. I was just reading too slowly and half a day flew by without much accomplished.

Dewey’s Read-a-thon Hour 17

Time: 12:35am

Currently Reading:

Let’s see, for the last few hours I: took a nap, had dinner, fed and scope poops for my Tamagotchi, ate some ice cream, had a mango, had a TimTam, chat with my mom on the phone, and sipped a thimble of Madeira because I was reading a wine book and couldn’t do it without some drink. And of course, reading all the responses to my mini-challenge. It was great fun reading all the posts and some had me cracking up. It’s really nice when people says that they like the challenge. Thank you so much! It’s really hard deciding which one is my favorite!

Dewey 24 Hour Read-a-thon Kicking Off!!

So, hubby did make it to his outrigger paddling this morning (I told him about his failed attempts the past two RAT).  Got some cheese and bread and chocolate soy milk for breakfast.  Fed the bird.  Fed the tamagotchi (and scooped his poop too).

First off, the Introductory Questionaire:

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

In my house in sunny Florida.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

Looking forward to all of them, but mostly The Angel Game which I started weeks ago.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

The Flying Cauldron Butterscotch Beer.  Yummy yummy!

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

I like to read. (oh that’s a surprise?) I also like trying different restaurants and am pretty adventurous with food.  I have a little parrotlet.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

This time I am able to take the day off work and just sit home and read!!  Also, this year I will be hosting a mini challenge for the first time.  It’s at hour 13 so please join me then!

Book I am reading:

wine club

Yes, it’s too early to drink.  I am reading this for my exam next week, and since I can’t read the whole book in one shot or I’ll get all the varieties mixed up, I decide it will be a good book to slot between other reads.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon Mini-Challenge Hour 13

I am super excited, this is my first time hosting a Mini Challenge (though my 6th Dewey). Hello to you all, and thank you so much for participating in my Mini-Challenge. How is your reading going? No matter how many or little you’ve read, I hope you are enjoying yourself and having a good time.

Hour 13… I figure I should have thought of something spooky, but maybe half way through the read-a-thon, you are feeling a bit hungry? How about if we cook the books a bit?

For this challenge, You will need to think of a popular title, twist it into a cookbook theme, then give us a little introduction about the book.

Here is a couple of examples:

The Soy Duck Club– Four pairs of mothers and daughters share their favorite recipes in this unusual cookbook. Here you will find authentic family recipes, fondly remembered by the mothers as their childhood favorites in China. Meanwhile, the American-Chinese daughters add their American twist to classics, using easier-to-find ingredients and utensils, as well as preparation methods more suited to our modern, busy lifestyles.

Three Ramen in a Bowl, Not to Mention the Hotdog – From the popular Food Network series, our three hosts travel up and down Mississippi river, sampling what America has to offer. There are American classics like BBQ, crawfish gumbo, as well as international and fusion cuisine found in the metropolitan areas. A must have for foodies and armchair travelers alike!

How to Play:

  • Post your reply here in the comment, or post on your blog and enter the link below.
  • This mini challenge will run for 3 hours.
  • There will be two prizes. One randomly drawn, and one I like the best!
  • Prizes: Select one of these yummy books below, or receive a book of your choice up to $12 from Better World Books.

* Tender at the Bones by Ruth Reichl
* The Bizarre Truth by Andrew Zimmern
* Fried Eggs with Chopsticks by Polly Evans
* The Honey Thief by Elizabeth Graver
* In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan
* The Language of Baklava by Diana Abu-Jaber

So, grab a snack to get your creative juice flowing! Any book title will do, but if it’s not a popular title, please include what the original title of the book. As for the synopsis, it doesn’t have to be related to the plot of the original title though if it does it’s more fun.

Thanks for stopping by and participating in the Cooking the Books mini-challenge! Happy Reading!

Wow, thanks all for participating!! I love reading all the replies, so creative and funny. You guys are genius!! Picking my favorite proves to be harder than I imagine as I really love quite a few of them.

Here are the winners:
Mrs. Soule for Hard-to-Miss Fowl
Christina for The Bun Also Rises

Congratulations, and thank you all for playing. Keep it going till Hour 24!
